Australian Tyrese Proctor scores NBA career high 35 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Las Vegas

Australian Cleveland Cavaliers guard Tyrese Proctor exploded for 35 points in just 28 minutes in the 2025 Summer League in Las Vegas on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Proctor, 21, took 24 shots and made 11 including four threes on 14 attempts. He hit all nine of his free throws. The Cavs lost 94-86 to the Sacramento Kings.

The Sydney-born floor leader, who starred at the Duke Blue Devils alongside No1 draft pick Cooper Flagg, tied Kyle Filipowski for the most points in this year's tournament.

Proctor — taken with the 49th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft — signed a four-year, $8.69 USD million deal (AUD $13.2M) with the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 2, 2025.

The 21-year-old is Australia's latest millionaire men's basketballer with his first two seasons fully guaranteed, the third a "significant partial guarantee", and the last year of his contract, a team option.

Proctor will get minutes in the backcourt for the Eastern Conference contenders in 2025-26 after Ty Jerome left the Cavs for the Memphis Grizzlies as a free agent.

The Athletic's Sam Vecenie reports that Proctor slipping to the 49th pick after a being projected a late first round or early second round selection was "orchestrated".

"The Cavaliers were clear with agents pre-draft that they would be using No. 49 for a rostered player on their team, league sources said before the draft," Vecenie wrote.

"That made Cleveland a very desirable destination for players and their representation, as a number of teams in the 40s are likely to only give two-way contracts to their draft selections.

"By letting agents know ahead of time that they would be rostering the player at No. 49, the Cavaliers orchestrated a drop for Proctor in what ended up being a value selection (he was the No. 36 player on my board)."
