Former Indiana Fever point guard Grace Berger immediately makes the Sydney Flames backcourt one of the best in the WNBL after the Louisville, Kentucky, WNBA signed with the Harbour City club on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The 183cm 26-year-old Berger joins Shaneice Swain in Guy Malloy's Flames backcourt as the Flames try to build on a 8-13 WNBL25 season and early exit from the playoffs series.
“Coming in as the point guard, I know it’s important for me to be vocal and that extension of the coach on the court,” Berger told the Flames.
“[Further to that] plenty of WNBA players whom I’m familiar with have used the WNBL to catapult their careers, which combined with the great development system that the Flames have in place, feels like the perfect place for me and my teammates to take our games to the next level and become the best players we can be.”
Berger is in her second WNBA season after a standout five-year college career at Indiana University. She was a teammate of WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark.
“Her work rate and attitude are incredible, while also being someone who can create her own shot and handle the ball — not to mention having a reputation as a mid-range master, which is a tool that not many players have in today’s modern game," coach Molloy said.
“Everyone I’ve spoken to about her says she’s also an amazing teammate and willing to do whatever is needed for success, which aligns perfectly with our Flames ethos.
“All in all, I know she’s someone all the Flames fans will love and is going to help us to get to where we want to be as a team and club.”
Berger has played 47 games in her WNBA career for the Fever, averaging 13.3 minutes per game, 3.9 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.5 steals. She shoots and outstanding 46.2% from three.
Berger was signed by the Minnesota Lynx in February 2025 but was waived on May 14, 2025.
She started 117 of 148 games for IU, averaging 12.4 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals.
